Mastery Learning and A Model of School Learning
First of all, the general view about the education is very important to establish a system of education. Especially, the view of educators to students and their learning is more important than the additional funds or new fads. The
theory that explains the individual differences in school learning tells that these differences are manmade or accidental so these can be altered by providing appropriate conditions. The distinctions that good-poor learner or
fast-slow learner are not inevitable because when the favorable conditions are provided most students become very similar with regard to learning ability, rate of learning and motivation. Some of these favorable conditions are; Increased learning effectiveness of students, Confidence of students in their learning capabilities, Improvements in mental health of students. There are some tasks that teachers should do to provide these conditions. Some of them are; Equality of opportunity to learn, Feedback and corrective help, Teacher belief in the learning capabilities of the students, No teacher can provide the supplementary help needed by each student-other allies are needed.
A different model of school learning has two different determinants: Time needed for learning and Time spent in learning. Time needed for learning includes three factors: Aptitude, Ability to understand instruction and Quality of instruction. Time spent for learning includes two factors: Time allowed for learning(opportunity), Time the learner is willing to spent in learning(perseverance).
